Treasure Trove In Scotland: Workshop for Museum and Heritage Professionals

Inverness Museum and Art Gallery

This workshop run by Natasha Ferguson of Treasure Trove Scotland aims to provide guidance on the Treasure Trove system in Scotland. This will include guidance on applying for allocated Treasure Trove material, particularly in light of the recent Code of Practice review, together with advice on how to deal with Treasure Trove enquires by members of the public. There will also a short object handling session with hints and tips on basic identification of archaeological objects. Primarily this workshop will be an opportunity for questions and discussion relating to Treasure Trove in Scotland.

Treasure Trove public workshop – identifying archaeological objects and reporting to Treasure Trove

Workshop led by Natasha Ferguson of Treasure Trove Scotland, held at Inverness Museum and Art Gallery

Chance discoveries of artefacts by members of the public have the potential to make a significant contribution to our understanding of Scotland’s past.

This is a workshop for anyone with an interest in archaeological objects. Learn about archaeological material and how to identify it with an opportunity for object handling. The workshop will also look at methods of best practice such as recording findspots and first aid for objects prior to reporting.

 

This will also be opportunity to learn more about the Treasure Trove system in Scotland.

If you have found an artefact bring it along and we will be delighted to identify it and help you report it.
